Client CommentsMost of my clients over the past twenty years have been insurers or reinsurers; i.e., sizable corporations that are professional litigants and work with many (many) lawyers. They usually have a business-like, ho-hum attitude toward the work of those lawyers. At the end of a matter, they usually just close their file and move on to the next case. They seldom go out of their way to say anything specific about the work I did or how much it helped them. Over the years, though, some of them have taken the time to compliment me on my work, or to thank me for it. Such comments mean a lot to me and I treasure them. (Who wouldn't?) On this page, I used to quote from such comments I have received over the years. Each of them was an unsolicited compliment or "thank-you" for a job well done. As of February 1, 2007, applicable New York regulations arguably prohibit me from including such comments on this site unless I can "factually support" them "as of the date on which" the site "is published or disseminated." Now, some of the matters the comments refer to were closed back in the 1990s. Some of the comments were made by people who are now retired, or have moved on to other companies, or have forgotten the details of those specific matters in the interim. All of the comments were in the nature of generalized kudos and thanks, with little or nothing in the way of specific assertions that one can "factually support." I don't want to have to argue with the powers-that-be about whether I can or cannot post such comments here, or about whether their regulation was really intended to apply to such comments, or when this Web site should be deemed to have been "published or disseminated," or whether their regulations violate the First Amendment, or whether their regulations are well-advised or pernicious and idiotic, or anything else. It's just not worth my time, peace of mind, and myocardium to get into a fight with such people. Therefore, I have decided to remove all those client comments from this site. If you are interested and want to see the client comments that used to be here, please just contact me and specifically ask for them. I will send them to you. When you read them, please bear this in mind: "Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome." (Yeah, the regulation requires me to tell you that, too; as if you didn't already know it.) |
